"The Meneghello terrace restaurant starts buzzing around seven every evening, as yachter types from the marina on the other side of the island start arriving to sample fantastic gregada (seafood stew cooked on an open fire), chicken grilled with the rosemary that covers Palmižana, or fish caught that afternoon by Eugen-Toto. Five-gallon flagons of homemade herb liquor are plonked on all tables after dinner, a dangerous practice. As always seems to happen, our five lazy days on Palmižana feel like two."

The variety of food is awesome...whether you are beginning the day with a fresh and healthy breakfast, enjoying antipasto of island cheese and Dalmatian olives and pršut, or a magnificent dinner of calamari, grilled škarpina, or Dalmatian style chicken with rosemary – the Meneghello restaurant is open from morning till night.
Dine under a bamboo roof, surrounded by plants and local arts and crafts that adorn the colorful walls. This unique setting, overlooking the bay, has a split-level terrace for you to enjoy the panorama as you sip some of the best local wines made on the sunny slopes of Hvar.

Start with a bruschetta with tomatoes, fresh basil, and goat cheese; there is grilled bread with garlic, home-made anchovies, octopus salad... or, if you feel like soup, you can choose between a fresh fish soup or Palmižana's special tomato soup with capers. Don’t forget to try the gregada, a selection of first-class fish and shells, prepared on a bed of potatoes and onions and covered in locally produced extra virgin olive oil which has been simmered slowly in broth on an open fire. And to send it all down in style, have the after-dinner special travarica, a local grappa, scented with herbs and spices.

Hospitality runs in the family, from one generation to the next. It is no coincidence that Eugen's grandson, Eugen-Toto, has opened another restaurant in Palmižana and named it after his father Toto Juraj Meneghello: Toto's, just down the hill from the Meneghello Palmižana Restaurant. "If you come over all puckish while yachting off Croatia this summer steer towards Pamižana for a glimpse of gastronomic heaven…Every morning Dagmar's son Đenko sails to Vis for fish and seafood, which is served at the beautiful beachside terrace restaurant. This is evocative of the 1960s St Tropez, with collared napery, driftwood sculptures, and paintings donated by visiting artists. Don’t miss the sublime shellfish risotto, sea truffles, buzara, spaghetti, lesicadas, and red and white brodetto."
